Last Resort is located in Karamea. Karamea is a town on the West Coast of the South Island of New Zealand. It is the northernmost settlement of any real size on the West Coast and is located 96 kilometers north-east by road from Westport.
When you are planning for a holiday in Westcoast New Zealand you have to check the weather first because this region gets a lot of rain. If you rent for your accommodation book much ahead especially on peak season.
My husband and I were undecided if we stay in our tent or rent a motel because the weather forecast kept on changing. We ended up booking for 1 night since that’s the only available of the day that we arrive at Karamea. And the weather on the following day was still heavy rain so we transferred to a different room. We have blessed someone who checks out and we grab the room.
Last Resort has plenty of room accommodations. The first room we got is the Lodge Double. The room is good for 2 people with heater, ceiling fan, side tables, 2 hangers, and power point to charge your devices which we really need. The second room that we got to stay warm and dry was the Lodge Twin Room which is the same price of the first room $74 per night. For this type of rooms, you can only use the shared kitchen, shower and toilet. The toilet and shower are tidy and simple. The kitchen has lots of space. There are couches, TV, tables, and chairs and a small fridge. Just the cooking top the Last Resort should provide 1 more because they only have 1 wee electric stove with 2 cooking top which is kinda old already. During our last night, the kitchen was in queue to cook dinner. Good thing my husband and I bring our portable gas stove. So I cook using it for 3 dishes(including for the next day journey) while the 4 people and 1 with children were very patient to cook using the provided electric stove of the Last Resort.
The place has a restaurant and coffee facilities which are easy and handy to their guests. For more details about the Last Resort accommodation and prices please visit their website: https://www.lastresortkaramea.co.nz/
